2-D and 3-D computation of magnetic fields, stress and thermal analysis

Computer aided engineering software like, two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) electromagnetic design simulation and analysis have been well recognised globally in industries and research institutions in recent years. It is a tool for evaluating the fundamental electromagnetic performance of a design at concept stage which can then be modified on the computer to improve the design. Typical applications of this type of software package can be found in the design and development of recording heads, motors, magnetic levitation, solenoids, MRI body scanners, electromagnetic shielding, magnetic sensors, etc.

It has become vital to carry out such computational analysis because design problems can be evaluated easily which is helpful in the sense that, one can visually and conceptually see a close approximation to the prototype solution on the computer before it is actually built. This saves an enormous amount of time and money. In addition to this, problematic areas in the design can be detected and rectified at an early stage, before the device is fully developed. Hence, trial and error prototypes are avoided which are still encountered today.
